Jasmine and Rose Geranium essential oils

Hi,

I'm making a body oil for myself and would like to scent it with jasmine and rose geranium, based on the therapeutic qualities of the oils. However, before I make a possibly quite expensive mistake does anyone know if these oils smell nice together??

I was thinking of diluting the oils to 5% in the carrier oil (although I have read that the rose geranium can be diluted to 10%!)... but does anyone know what ratio of rose geranium to jasmine I should use?

The percentage of rose geranium to jasmine would depend on personal preference - If you like jasmine more then put more jasmine in or vice versa - or you could use 50-50 - the choice is yours.

As for the percentage in carrier oil, it depends on what you are using the body oil for - if it is a physical therapuetic action you require and you are going to use it localised then I would use up to 10% but I suspect you are using these oils more for the aromas and possible emotional/psychological therapeutic action - is this right? - if so then a lower percentage would be fine - 4-6% - especially if you will be using it all over your body.

I've not smelt rose geranium before so cannot comment on whether it would smell nice with jasmine. I suspect the blend would be quite sweet smelling which personally I wouldn't like but if you like the oils then go for.

To keep the cost down as jasmine is quite expensive, you can buy it already diluted to 5% in a carrier oil - might be worth looking at and trying it with the rose geranium to see if you like it before forking out for the absolute.

Lavandula - and others! - I've just been given some roller ball dispensers, for pulse point application I assume is their main use?
Would you recommend a 10% dilution for this kind of use then?

I normally use 3% dilution of essential oils in carrier for massage or bath oils.

(although I'm not an aromatherapist, I'm a home enthusiast, and have mixed blends for friends and relatives)

You could use the roller ball applicators for pulse points or as a perfume. If it were just perfume, I would probably still go for the lower percentage but for pulse points where you want it to have an effect then go for the higher percentage but this does depend on the oils you use as some oils are better used at lower percentages. Always perform a patch test first especially if you have sensitive skin.

You could also mix a blend of witch hazel and tea tree for spot application too using the rollerballs.

I would find 5% far too overpowering for a body oil especially if I use it everyday. I use maximum 1.5%. I guess it depends on the quality of essential oils you have as good ones have strong scents and only need a bit.

Rose germanium smells so nice even all by itself.

Sometimes I mix 2 or 3 oils for their benefits rather then the scent chemistry.

I am a home enthusiast too by the way.

I was originally intending to use the rose geranium for a particular physical therapeutic action, but I got so into reading about its other benefits too... and then about the benefits of other oils and carrier oils... that I was drawn in!! I thought I might as well make it into a body oil that would be cheaper and better than a lot that are in on the market, and totally natural

I think I will aim for the 6% dilution then, but I'll add them both slowly so I can see how the aroma is coming along, haha!

Hey, Littlebird, how did you get on?
Someone just gave me some of their Jasmine oil, which I've never had before, and blimey it's extremely strong!
I put one drop on the cuff of my cardigan on Sunday, and two days later it still smells like I am wearing perfume.

Watch out about getting drawn in - that's how it started for me, and now I have 32 bottles of oil!!
