HLH observation about renos and girls

Well, first off I've been watching this place grow and change since the Zona Blue days, both good and bad. I liked the expansion of the bar but didn't like what happened when it expanded, because it moved all the girls to a wall bench and created an us/them mentality in my mind. Guys at the bar, women on the wall, and that wasn't at all what the vibe had been like before. Still, the space was nice.

Fast forward a few years and now they are rebuilding the bar again. Moved the bench out and put in these little tables that come away from the wall. So what happens? The girls mob up on the tables instead of the bench, and now we're watching as the girls sit in that space and eat pasta, which for the life of me I can't figure out why they allow.

I find that a lot of the friendly vibe that used to exist is gone, and if it were my I would say that the girls should be forced to not all sit at those wall tables/benches, or maybe to limit the number in that space at a time and have some at the bar or some such ,and move them around a bit. Make the place a bit more sociable again. I have never, ever, seen such a grim looking bunch of women as i did on my last visit to HLH in November. I was also absolutely prohibit them from eating meals in that area. If they are going to eat then use one of the areas and come back. Who wants to look at scantily clad women stuffing their face with pasta and making a mess of the sitting are? It was a singularly unappealing visual, and we wonder where the panzitas are coming from. lol

I don't know whether the plan is to put some more tables in there or not, although I could see they were doing stuff in the back, but I think that would also be helpful.

I stayed at HLH in November, and I noticed that there just wasn't as much going on as there was during my stay back in April. I didn't see any girls up on the counter dancing and stripping this trip. It was almost a nightly thing in April. If I didn't get to the bar early enough I had trouble finding a seat anywhere. This trip I don't think I ever saw more than ten or so people during prime time. Everything was just slower, and I started leaving in the evening to find something going on. Having the girls all bunched together in small groups at the new tables made them much less approachable, at least to me. Things were so slow one night I bought all the girls there a round of drinks just to try and shake things up a bit, and it worked for about five minutes. Don't get me wrong, I do like HLH, and I realize that it is a work in progress. I chatted with Jeff quite a bit, and I got the feeling he will turn it around. I'm looking forward to a trip back without most of my time sitting in a dentist's chair. That will probably not be for six months or so, but I have hunch that I will be staying at HLH again.

There was much more going on when The Giant ran the show. Easy to draw a crowd and have a party atmosphere when you are giving out drinks on the house every few minutes. And free sessions. The problem with that is you will eventually go broke.

I respectfully disagree, Seabreeze. Not to start up the whole Boyd thing again, but the Giant had great promotions and he brought customers in. That is what the restaurant/bar business is all about, volume. Of course you can't bankrupt the place by giving away too many freebies, but if you get more guys in they will spend money and that equals profits.

I hope Newfangle's right, and that it turns around soon. I'm all for freebies and giveaways, but if the product is good then you don't have to give it away. I would pay for a quality product and a fun experience and I think most of you would agree. It just makes sense. Instead of the girls sitting in bored clusters wondering why no one is buying they could interact with their client and make it happen. Happier, more entertained clients stay longer and session more. Guys are happy, girls are happy. Management gets a cut and is happy too. It's just about creating a culture, and that's business 101, or should be, for those directly involved. The girls don't have the acumen to do it themselves and so the push has to come from management.
