The DVDs are often in poor condition because they first make the rounds of all the migrant worker hostels. Look at the back of the disks before you buy them - I bought three for 20 rmb, none worked, then I looked at the other side - scratches and what looked like cigarette burns!

i was born there and i spent last summer there.

Porn is illegal in china/shanghai.
So you have to buy it from shady people.

when you walk down street there's these vendors with garbage bags of stuff. if you're walking alone male, or with just guys they'll appoarch you with dvds; it's not not 40 rmb it's like 4 or 5 rmb. i haggled cuz i speak the dialect. but 5-10 rmb each is about right.

the covers are misleading tho. sometimes you get stuff that's completely not what you expect from the pics on the dvd.

the xian yang markets - just ask 10 for 100 and walk away if they start haggling - tell them u live here and know how to get it for 10. also try vendors on street - they may not have them displayed but might close by. there is vendor sometimes near the paramount bar that sells great jap ones for 20rmb in the evening, they r the best quality ive found but hes not always there
