Protection against catching fungal infections from clients

Hi! I am a reflexologists and I caught a fungal infection from one of my clients. I check my clients feet before the treatment and I have never knowingly treated anyone with a fungal infection. I am wondering if anyone knows of any handwashes or anything that I can use after every treatment to prevent me fromcatching infections.

Perhaps simple infection control such as washing hands before and after treatments, and using a gel hand cleaning lotion should you have to touch anything other than their feetduring the treatment (you can get little bottles of this stuff in most chemists - I keep one in my pocket). If I discover that new clients have active infection, I tell them about it, ask them to treat it before the next session, and avoid treating that area during the currentsession. Some of my older clients rarely see their feet, so I don examination gloves and clean them before I treat them!

It seems that regular handwash isn't effective enough. Is this a specific sort of gel that you use? What is the one you use called? Can it be used after every treatment I give?

Heya

I can't remember what it's called, but I use them for exhibitions etc, if you have a word at the chemists they will advise you, I think they are antibacterial washes, like the ones they use in a hospital, they wipe most infections out.

I'm also a bit of a fan of nail brushes and give my hands a really good clean under the nails, as that's the primary place any bacteria will get pushed when doing reflex on someone.

Would love to find where the hospitals get there gels from as it evaporates very quickly as alcohol based. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Cuticura have a choice of two as far as I know - the one I use has a refreshing cucumber aroma, it's alcohol based and dries very quickly - available from Boots and also my local Sainsburys stock it. Also in Sainsburys this week I saw a spray bottle of something similar, possibily called "Matron" but don't quote me on that said to wipe out MRSA andis the type of handwash used in hospitals.

I use Boots antibacterial wipes on my clients' feet before a treatment and then always wash my hands thoroughly after with Anti bac soap and haven't caught anything yet (although obvisoulsy don't treat if I can see there's a fungal infection!)
