Looking for some information please

I am currently studying reflexology, and I am now at the case study stage. I have been treating a women in her early thirties who has discomfort in the uterus and ovary reflexes, in both feet. During her last session with me she experienced alot of heat in these areas (which I could feel hot to touch and almost pulsing) which radiated up her legs.
Would someone be able to explain to me more about this? I haven't really come across much detail about heat in any books/notes etc

I wonder if this lady has any gynaecological/female hormone related problems. Are there clues in the case history you've taken? Is she trying to conceive and could there be a lot of emotion/stress attached to those areas? I've not experienced anything like this though I am sure you will get some great replies from the reflexologists on these pages. Good luck!

Yes I have taken a detailed medical/lifestyle history and there appears to be no problems in this area. She does have thyroid problems(which I know is involved in sexual development)but surely because of her age this would not be connect???

i have read about the link between thyroid conditions and trying to conceive, so maybe siobhan is onto something. interestingly, the reflex points you are mentioning are more or less in the same zone, as many of the endocrine points are.

That is very interesting, I'm not sure if it has any link to this case, but you never know! I love the way reflexology is constant learning with each new person, it's amazing. I think I'm becoming addicted to buying books on this subject!

Hello Yala,

This one depends on a lot of things such as, what part of her cycle was she in at the time. Just because you felt heat doesn't mean there's anything wrong as such it could just be that her reproductives were being affected by changing hormone levels. Also I find that in a lot of my clients the uterus and ovary reflexes are quite sensitive anyway especially if you hit them spot on. When you find imbalance in a particular reflex always look elsewhere for other clues, i.e. other reflexes that are related, as in this case the endocrine system. Does she have a coil fitted? Don't forget the female body especially is on a continual cycle every month which can cause some interesting findings in the foot reflexes. It could be connected to the thyroid problems but as this does affect the repros. Remember try to look at your patient as a whole and just monitor how things go, it's always tempting to try and diagnose things from just a few sessions. I have learnt to just note things as they happen and treat 'holistically' and not to worry to much about treating a particular thing.

I was going to say something similar to Susan. We must remember that we are specifically NOT to diagnose. Depending on what this client's situation is, trying to find a reason for imbalances could cause panic. For instance, if she intends to start a family in the future, she may be worrying unnecessarily that she might be infertile.

All that needs to be done is to pass on the information that an imbalance was found in the reproductive reflexes and that this could either be physical or emotional. If the client presses for more information, we have to make it clear that we don't diagnose, but that this could just be related to hormonal changes in the cycle. This should be noted on the consultation form.

I think that I'm worrying too much! I would like to think that when clients ask a question I could give them a correct and clear answer. I had mentioned all the normal points, but couldnt really fully explain the heat to the client, but I sure I didnt worry her. I am probably worrying about the case study overview, I want to sound as if I know what Im talking about!!!
