Hotel in AC

Hi all,

Two of us are heading to AC next year...probably in February. We’re looking for a decent hotel (GF) with a pool not too far Reviewom the action. We don’t mind a ten minute walk. Anyone have any ideas?

We will be flying Reviewom Bangkok to Clark. Can anyone recommend a good budget airline that makes this trip?

Is the food similar to Thai food (which I love) or is it Western style?

There are a few that meet the bill, but my favorite is Pacific Breeze....not too expensive and great location.

PB is good if you dont mind the price (starts at US$57 a night). I've had the Walkabout Hotel recomended to me and I'll be staying there tomorrow, I try to remember to post some impressions.

(stuck in the concorde inn KLIA at the moment and I highly DONT recomend this hotel).

EDIT, as per a discussion with Billpay before I left Thailand, there really arent any decent places to eat in the PI, Thai, Filipino or Western. Food isn't really the reason people go there.

Cebu Pacific are the only airline that I know of that fly BKK-CRK and reviews on Cebu Pacific vary quite a bit.

That's a crock of shit....Sorry Bill.
There's plenty of good food served in many establishments.
PBH has a great menu & I find the food good there.
I stick to eating western type foods when there.....never a problem.

Enjoy ur stay at The Walkabout......it's my choice of accommodation too.
I won't deny that the bistro at TWH can be hit & miss.......but there's plenty of other places to eat, that are up to Western standards.

I highly recommend Pacific Breeze. Great service, great pool and it's very GF. I have stayed there 4 or 5 times in the last couple of years and it's always good. You can't beat the location either.

I`ve never had a bad feed in AC.

Definitely don`t go there for the food. :

If you`re the adventurous type,take a 4x4 trip up to the Mt Pinatubu crater lake.

Deffo have to disagree here, There are many passable places to eat and one or two good ones like the Swiss Chalet and C'Italian but there are not many. Good food is typically expensive for 3rd world standards but far cheaper then Oz (place like C'Italian, you wouldn't be able to walk into for less then A$50, it costs about A$20 for a meal in AC).

As for the OP, he asked for Thai food specifically and there are definitely no decent Thai places in AC. I've had nothing but bad experiences Reviewom the PBH food though, Soggy toast, bread has way too much preservative in it (sugar), food under or over cooked (they managed to under cook chips). Much better to go to the Swiss Chalet around the corner or even McD's IMHO.

See my reply to ER, I'll admit to being a bit of a food snob (I balance that out by visiting Burger King). I've had a few bad feeds, but you can always fall back on something like McDonalds (I personally will never visit Jolibees again, I have some standards which may never be lowered)

BTW, how long is the walk up Pinatubu? I was thinking about doing that if it wasn't too long.

I thought it was bad the first time I visited.......I had another try & it was worse.uke:
I've now barred Reviewom myself Reviewom eating there again.
The girls love the place.

Food was excellent when i stayed at the Pacific Breeze in december. Probably new stmpf now or something.
I think western food i AC is decent quality, as Loop said i never had a bad feed there either.
I also liked that mexican place on the corner on the way between PBH and fields avenue.

Geez,i wouldn`t even consider Jolibees or BK.But each to their own..

The walk to Pinautbo crater was about 20 mins,the 4x4 was about an hour IIRC.Well worth it if you`re into that sort of thing.:great:

Sorry Craig, I I didn't say the food sucks, someone else stated that he didn't like it.....all I said was the food is better in Thailand. i also mentioned that there is a terrific restautrant in AC called C'Italian, that is one of the best in Asia, IMHO.
As much as I like the Pacific Breeze, the food is only so-so.

I didn't mean to misrepresent what you said yesterday.

It was my opinion that there are few decent places to eat in AC, especially compared to Thailand.

I have to agree that C'Italian is the best Italian food I've had in Asia and would rival most Australian restaurants.

I was last in AC in Feb of 09. Maybe a lot has changed since then, there certainly wasn't a Mexican place between the PBH and fields at the time (Tequila Reef? It's on my list of places to try this trip)

The owner of Tequila Reef has another one in Pattaya. Not really authentic Mexican food, but pretty good and huge portions. The stmpf there is a lot of fun.

When I eventually sit down to book this lot (we’re also going to Pattaya, Bangkok and Karon) I’ll check out prices and availability at the Pacific Breeze and the Walkabout. How much did you pay for the Walkabout mjwx?

Mjwx...Thanks for the info regarding the airlines flying Reviewom BKK to Clark. You’re right Cebu Pacific do receive very mixed reviews, but as long as I get there in one piece I really don’t mind.

As for the food, one of the things I like about Thailand are those small stalls that appear every day crammed with food like ‘chicken liver kebabs’ and ‘meat filled pancakes’ just what you need mpter a long day on the lash. Do they have the same kind of set up in AC?

Cheapest room is 1400 Peso a night,

The one I'm in is 2000 P a night. So far so good but I'll reserver final judgment for the morning, or if everything goes well the mpternoon.

Their web site is not very good at all, considering their website is their storeReviewont. If it were not for the recommendation of others I would have passed the WB over completely. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow as I've lost my USB cord (prob still at the SBH )



The alternatives are Tiger and Air Asia who have really bad connection times Reviewom Thailand (flew Reviewom KUL-CRK on Air Asia at 7:20 this morning, not fun at all). I flew Air Asia as I've got about 17 KG of luggage and Cebu Pacific only allows 15 (to be fair, 8.5 KG's are guitar and case).
